Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The newest book from the authors who brought us Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist isn't quite as good as that gem, but it's better than their second book, Naomi & Ely's No-Kiss List. Yes, the characters, especially Dash, are a little pretentious, but for where these kids live... well, newsflash: people who live there are pretentious. But for Dash and Lily, it is a pretension that is backed up by their life experiences, so it endeared me to the characters. Plus, the sheer artlessness of Boomer balanced it out nicely. Yes, the basic conceit of two people being able to leave stuff for each other in random places in New York is a little hard to swallow, especially as a New Yorker myself, but I could look past it due to the sheer joy the idea of a romantic adventure like that stirs in me. I read this book in a twelve-hour period because I just loved the characters and the plot so much. I recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a little something sweet and romantic.
