Goodreads Book Review - The Walking Dead: The Fall of the Governor, Book 2

The Walking Dead: The Fall of the Governor: Part TwoThe Walking Dead: The Fall of the Governor: Part Two by Robert Kirkman

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Honestly, the only reason I read this book and the previous installment knowing already just about everything that was going to happen in them is because I read the first two installments full of new material. And to their credit, the authors do try to add new material here as well by having the book focused not just on the Governor but on characters like Lilly, Austin, Gabe, and Bob, but for me at least it's all overshadowed by the lack of suspense in the proceedings. Plus, a lot of the new material is just depressing; Lilly's and Woodbury's story might end on a happy note, but what it takes to get there is just too much. But it's a fun book in parts, and for a Walking Dead completist it's worth a read.

Goodreads Book Review - William Shakespeare's The Jedi Doth Return

William Shakespeare's The Jedi Doth ReturnWilliam Shakespeare's The Jedi Doth Return by Ian Doescher

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Star Wars is definitely Shakespearean in nature, but by the time this third book in the series got underway, the concept of Star Wars as a play felt tired. I'm not saying it was bad or anything, but the novelty of it had faded, and all the author's attempts to make it feel fresh again just fell kind of flat to me. Maybe I'm just too familiar with the story at this point that once the novelty wore off there wasn't as much here for me anymore.

Or maybe Shakespearean Ewoks are just that stupid.

Goodreads Book Review - White Night

White Night (The Dresden Files, #9)White Night by Jim Butcher

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It's funny, I've read and enjoyed every book in the Dresden Files so far but it feels like this is the book where the real story begins. That isn't to say every book hasn't had an awesome story, because they have, but it's here that a lot of the ongoing plot lines seem to be starting to converge and everything feels stepped up a notch, as was reflected in the incredibly long, exciting, and just insane final battle of the book. I was starting to get a little fatigued on Butcher, starting to want to read some other things that I've been itching to get to, but this book is making it hard to put the series down...
